Perhaps no area of the healthcare IT space is more exciting, more challenging, or more potentially rewarding than health information exchange.  The term can mean a number of different things in different contexts, but at its core HIE is about putting critical patient data from widely disparate sources into the hands of medical professionals, in a format that is concise, complete, and most of all actionable.

J2’s partnership with InterSystems Corporation has allowed us to play a leading role in some truly ambitious HIE projects.  In New York State, for example, our portfolio includes three health information exchanges in Long Island, Brooklyn, and the upstate region around Albany, each of which has chosen InterSystems’ HealthShare platform as the foundation of their exchange.  And in Sweden, our work has included not only the interface logic necessary to support a nation-wide health exchange across 21 counties, but also significant enhancements to the core capabilities of HealthShare itself.

As InterSystems’ preferred partner for HealthShare implementations since 2007, we have seen the state of the art evolve from traditional point-to-point interfaces to service-oriented architectures, and our solutions have evolved accordingly.  Together with InterSystems, we have helped to shape the development of emerging standards in the regions in which we’ve worked.

Other HIE efforts in which J2 has played a key role include product development for MedPlus’ next-generation HIE platform and LifePoint Informatics’ Google Health initiative.  Across all of our HIE projects, we are constantly striving to help our clients stretch the boundaries of what’s possible, so that they in turn can improve the quality of the information delivered to care providers and their patients.
