Priority Health is a not-for-profit health insurance company that provides coverage to over 8,000 employers and half a million people in the state of Michigan.  Its insurance plans have consistently received praise and high rankings from various government agencies and private publications.

When Priority Health chose Ensemble as the underlying platform for its corporate SOA initiative, they brought in J2 to provide best-practices consulting on a number of topics including web service implementation, security protocols, programming guidelines, Subversion integration, system maintenance, and troubleshooting approaches.  J2 mentored the Priority Health team on building Ensemble interfaces to handle both HL7 and X12 traffic.  We built a proof-of-concept X12 request-reply mechanism to integrate Ensemble with an insurance eligibility web service, and our work served as a template for further development by the internal staff.  And we helped Priority Health incorporate Ensemble into existing methods and procedures to maintain SAS 70 compliance.

Upon completing our best-practices engagement, J2 was asked back to assist Priority Health with the development of additional Ensemble web services.  One such service connects Priority Health's online quotation and customer enrollment system with various internal data repositories.  Another integrates data from the Priority Health Member Center into the MySpectrum patient portal provided by parent company Spectrum Health.
