Spectra Laboratories, a division of Fresenius Medical Care North America, is one of the nation’s leading providers of renal-specific laboratory services.  J2 has successfully delivered many Ensemble projects for both the east coast and west coast divisions of Spectra, including:

• ADT and clinical interface development for Spectra’s Averity application suite
• Integration of Spectra’s internal orders and results system with third-party EMR applications
• Integration with Initiate’s EMPI solution
• Design and build-out of a high-availability Ensemble architecture for Spectra’s Ensemble production environment
• Ensemble integration to support the migration of Spectra’s legacy applications to McKesson’s HLAB platform
• A “traffic cop” message queuing system that brokers the generation and publication of new patient IDs by Initiate, holding incoming messages for new patients until the lab system has acknowledged insertion of each patient with his or her Initiate-generated ID
• Various testing and validation tools to assist Spectra developers with their own Ensemble projects
• Web-based user interfaces in Zen to allow system administrators to manage the list of databases to be archived, schedule backups, configure custom backup parameters, analyze error logs, and track progress on Ensemble porting projects
• Execution of a successful upgrade of Spectra's Ensemble environment with no significant downtime or impact on customers and staff

These projects have required not only HL7 interface development for a broad range of message types, but also extensive Caché Object Script application development to customize and extend Ensemble’s core feature set.  In addition to design and implementation of the various HL7 interfaces and application modules, J2's responsibilities have included Ensemble best-practices consulting, systems architecture, performance analysis and tuning, training and mentoring of Spectra staff, and code reviews of Spectra-authored Ensemble productions.
