Spectrum Health

Spectrum Health is a not-for-profit integrated health system, based in West Michigan, that includes a medical center, regional community hospitals, a dedicated children's hospital, a multispecialty medical group and a nationally recognized health plan, Priority Health.  In early 2009, Spectrum chose Ensemble to replace its legacy eGate infrastructure, and set about the task of migrating over 100 HL7 interfaces from eGate to Ensemble.

Though Spectrum has a well-staffed and highly capable internal IT organization, they enlisted J2 to provide best-practices consulting, sample code, and hands-on training in the InterSystems technology stack, including Caché Studio, the Ensemble Management Portal, and the Zen application development framework.  J2 helped Spectrum’s technical managers validate and formalize their approach to developing Ensemble productions, which was specifically tailored to conform to their unique methodology and requirements and which made extensive use of custom Caché Object Script classes.  We also provided several Zen pages to lay the groundwork for Spectrum’s custom-built production maintenance portal and support dashboards.

In addition to completing the eGate-to-Ensemble transition on an aggressive schedule, and helping Spectrum staff gain self-sufficiency with Caché and Ensemble, J2 implemented a number of HL7 and X12 interfaces in support of Spectrum’s RelayHealth RevRunner installation.  The task of connecting Cerner, HealthQuest, and Health Practice Plus to RevRunner required close collaboration with both Spectrum Health developers and third-party application vendors, as well as the development of custom Ensemble adapters to handle the X12 270 and 271 message traffic.

"J2 Interactive has been extremely effective in augmenting my IT Development staff.  I have confidence in J2's capabilities, and they're always the first call I make when I need supplementary resources for projects."
